A Duke great has been inducted into the National College Baseball Hall of Fame.
Former Duke baseball and basketball player Dick Groat was inducted into the Hall of Fame on Monday at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center. He is now a member of the College Baseball and College Basketball Hall of Fame.
He is the first player in Duke baseball history to be naned to the College Baseball Hall of Fame. He was a two-year letterwinner and two-time All-American for the Duke baseball team in 1951 and 1952, including being named 1952 College Baseball Player of the Year.
He was one of seven members inducted into the College Baseball Hall of Fame. Others included current Boston Red Sox manager Terry Francona, Danny Goodwin, Ralph Waldo, Emerson Jones, Oddibe McDowell, Tim Wallach, and Bill Wilheim.
