The Florida Marlins has signed Jose Lopez to a minor league contract.
Lopez became available after he was released by the Colorado Rockies earlier this season. Lopez had a 129 plate appearances for the Rockies, prior to being released.
If Lopez is called up to the active roster, the Marlins will only owe Lopez a pro-rated portion of the league minimum contract. The Rockies are on the hook to pay the rest of his $3.6 million salary for the rest of this season.
Once Lopez arrives with the Marlins, he will be designated to the New Orleans Zephrys, the Marlins Triple-A team.
