By Anthony Caruso III

The San Diego Padres has wasted no time in signing their first round draft pick.

The Padres has signed first-round pick Cory Spangenberg to a multi-year contract. He has received a $1.86 million signing bonus, which is the salary for where he was slotted in the draft.

Spangenberg was the 10th overall draft pick in this week;s draft. He was drafted out of Indian River Junior College in Florida.

The Padres received the 10th overall draft pick after failing to sign Karsten Whitson last year. The Padres would not have received another compensation pick for having another player go unsigned.
