Eckstein has not retired, but doesn't feel like playing right now in his career

By Anthony Caruso III

David Eckstein is not retired.

The former San Diego Padres second baseman says that he doesn't consider his self to be retired. But he added that he would return for the right situation.

"It totally has to be the right situation, but when you say that, it’s like you’re disrespecting the clubs that have talked to you," Eckstein said. "This goes so much deeper than you guys will ever know."

Eckstein had some offers during the off-season and was contacted by the Los Angeles Dodgers once spring training started. But he said that he couldn't make the decision to play.

It is not likely that Eckstein will play this season. He could possibly get some calls during the off-season, which could bring him back to baseball.
