Sampson will talk to the Pistons about becoming their head coach

By Anthony Caruso III

The Detroit Pistons were rumored to have an interest of two former Pistons of the last.

Those two Pistons were Isiah Thomas and Bill Laimbeer. But now, the Pistons have been granted permission to speak with Kelvin Sampson, the Milwaukee Bucks assistant coach.

Sampson has been an assistant with the Bucks since May 2008 after Scott Skiles gave him an opportunity he could no longer get in the NCAA. Sampson came to the Bucks after being the Indiana men's basketball coach, which ended in scandal, before Tom Crean arrived.

Sampson has previously stated that he'll never coach in college again. When he made those comments, he insisted that he wanted to be a coach in the NBA.

"You never say never," Sampson told the AP in April 2009, when asked about a potential return to college. "But I'm really excited about the NBA, and I'm excited about the possibility of becoming a head coach in the NBA one day, maybe. And if it works out, it works out. If it does, it does. If it doesn't, it doesn't."
