North Carolina's "Basketball Day" honors Smith, Krzyzewski, and Yow

The North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame has honored three coaches with more than 2,500 career wins.

The Hall of Fame honored former North Carolina men's basketball head coach Dean Smith, Duke men's basketball head coach Mike Krzyzewski, and late North Carolina State women's basketball coach Kay Yow at the ceremony. The three coaches were honored on "Basketball Day" in North Carolina.

They were also honored for their contributions to the game of basketball by the Naismith International Basketball Foundation.

Krzyzewski is in his 37th year with as a Division 1 head coach. He has 900 wins, which are just two shy of tying Bob Knight for the most wins ever by a Division i men's basketball coach. Smith retired in 1997 and had 879 wins prior to his retirement.

Yow, had 737 wins in her career, before being affected by breast cancer. She would pass away in 2009 due to breast cancer.
