Pennington might have to retire after getting hurt playing in a pick up basketball game

By Anthony Caruso III

A basketball game has changed Chad Pennington's future.

The free agent quarterback wanted to re-sign with the Miami Dolphins, but now that may not happen. He might not sign with another team, and as a result, will have to sit out the 2011 season.

Pennington, even if he does sign with a team, will have to miss significant time. He will require surgery on his torn ACL that he suffered in a basketball game. Pennington was almost back to full health from his fourth shoulder surgery when this ACL tear happened.

He might have to retire after this latest development.
