San Diego saw two former players and a former assistant coach charged in a sports betting business

By Anthony Caruso III

The University of San Diego is a step closer to getting over a bad time in its men's basketball history.

Three have been charged with running a sports betting business to affect the outcome of games. All were charged on Monday.

Brandon Johnson, the school's all-time leader in points and assists; Thaddeus Brown, a former assistant coach at the school, and Brandon Dowdy, who last played at the school in 2006-07, were all charged. They were not the only individuals charged in the case, as 7 others were chargers.

The authorities did not say how the scheme worked, but they said they were trying to determine everybody's role in the scheme.
