Zimmerman is eligible to return, but is likely headed for a rehab assignment next

By Anthony Caruso III

The Washington Nationals are several days away from getting their franchise back.

Ryan Zimmerman has been cleared to resume baseball activities. He has been affected by an abdominal strain.

He was checked out by team doctors on Monday and apparently is done fine. He is eligible to come off the disabled list today, but the team is likely going to hold him out for another 10 days.

Prior to Zimmerman returning, the Nats will send down Zimmerman on a minor-league rehab assignment in order for him to get some at-bats. Once he feels ready to go, he will re-join the major league roster.
